Synopsis

This thesis highlights the use of hyaluronic acid in aesthetics, specifically in facial
fillers. Its objective was to investigate the complications associated with the
application of hyaluronic acid in facial fillers through an updated literature review. A
bibliographic review study was conducted, selecting relevant information from
scientific and academic databases. The results show that despite its popularity and
high safety profile, the use of hyaluronic acid is not without risks and can lead to
various complications, ranging from mild to severe. The most frequently observed
complications include inflammatory reactions such as redness, swelling, and pain at
the injection site, which are usually temporary and resolve within a few days. More
severe complications can arise from improper injection techniques, immune system
reactions, or poor quality of the product used. It was observed that the choice of the
type and amount of hyaluronic acid, as well as knowledge of facial anatomy and
proper application techniques, are crucial to avoiding complications. Well-trained and
experienced professionals are less likely to make mistakes that can lead to
undesirable results or serious complications.
