Synopsis

Forensic dentistry is known as the area of dentistry that requires forensic
techniques of legal and legal knowledge, among them the permission to identify
corpses through post-mortem and ante-mortem dental x-rays, allowing the
identification of specific anatomical characteristics present on the face and oral
cavity. Being quite effective when there are no traditional methods available for
identification. Comparison requires techniques and knowledge for a thorough
interpretation of the images obtained. The present work aims to deepen the
understanding of the use of dental x-rays in the identification of corpses, through a
narrative review, using the hypothetical-deductive method, with analysis of scientific
articles found on the Google Scholar and PubMed portals. Exploring the crucial role
of x-rays in identifying missing persons and examining in detail the process of
comparisons and the challenges present to this forensic technique.
