CHALLENGES FOR THE EFFECTIVE DIAGNOSIS OF SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA OF THE MOUTH – A COMPARISON IN BRAZILIAN REGIONALITIES

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors, especially in men. Understanding the factors that influence regional variations in the incidence of CCEB is crucial for developing effective prevention and treatment strategies. This study, conducted in an exploratory manner, sought to analyze the incidence of CCEB in different regions of Brazil, identifying the challenges associated with diagnosis, treatment and monitoring, with the aim of contributing to combating this disease and promoting oral health in the population. The analysis, carried out through a search on Google Scholar and Scielo, highlighted the predominance of cases in men and individuals who smoke and drink alcohol, but there was a lack of data in the north, central-west and northeast regions. The main lesions linked to CCEB were found predominantly in the tongue, lips, oropharynx, larynx and floor of the mouth, which unfortunately are noticed through a late diagnosis of the disease, representing a challenge in diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, the training and awareness of professionals emerge as fundamental elements to effectively guide this process, promoting a more comprehensive and effective approach to the prevention and treatment of oral cancer.
