Victimology: THE ROLE OF THE VICTIM IN CONTEMPORARY CRIMINAL LAW
Keywords:
Victimology, Criminal Law, Victim ParticipationSynopsis
This work addresses the involvement of victims in the origins and consequences of crime, focusing on approaching victims, changing the direction of the criminal process. In this sense, it attests to the transcendence of the victim, who was previously considered the passive subject of the crime, the weak and stagnant bond, which now represents the decisive act towards the person who commits it. It has been proven that through an in-depth analysis of the victim: social environment, education, culture, cognition, and other biological, social and psychological aspects, it is possible to shed light on the crime in a more fair and effective way. Therefore, this approach not only values the victim, but also contributes to a more balanced and holistic criminal justice system.
