Synopsis

Flooring is one of the most important phases of a building, linked to the aesthetics of a property. Different types of coverings can be used on walls and floors, such as ceramics, which are industrialized products with inorganic and non-metallic components, with clay as the main raw material. Like all construction materials, ceramic coverings can have pathological manifestations such as peeling, cracking, openings, stains (efflorescence, mold, water stains or stains from use) or deterioration of joints. In this way, this work seeks to present the definitions and characteristics, the possible pathological manifestations and the possible solutions for the pathologies of ceramic tiles based on bibliographical research and case studies. The research was conducted using qualitative and descriptive research in official sources such as books and articles; The case study is based on different locations and works in which the author found possible pathologies in ceramic coverings. From the study, it was found that most pathologies are resolved by replacing damaged ceramic plates, not achieving the possibility of finding an alternative solution to this resolution. However, the work achieved the aforementioned objectives.
