The research highlights the alarming increase in cases of filicide, such as those with Henry Borel, Isabella Nardoni and others, revealing that these children were already being abused before being brutally killed. The study also addresses the identification and actions to be taken when a child is the victim of abuse by those who should protect them. The objective is to guarantee the safety of these children and comply with the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA), which establishes the full protection of the rights of children and adolescents. However, even after almost three decades of existence, ECA still finds resistance in its full application. One measure implemented to support children is the Menino Bernardo Law, which prohibits the use of physical punishment and cruel treatment in the education and care of children and adolescents. Despite being in existence for five years, this law has had little publicity, resulting in low awareness of it. Therefore, the objective of the work is to emphasize the importance of these laws, aiming to raise awareness and promote the defense of the rights of children and adolescents. The methodology used was bibliographical research, covering articles, newspaper and magazine websites, to support the study with a wide range of sources. The research focused on cases in which the biological parents committed homicide against their children, analyzing the crimes, the perpetrators and the victims, and exploring the legislative changes resulting from these cases of great media repercussion.
