Synopsis

This study addressed the influence of removable total dentures on the quality of life of orally rehabilitated completely edentulous individuals. The objective was to understand the relationship between removable total dentures and oral rehabilitation in edentulous individuals. The study was carried out through a descriptive review of the literature, with the analysis of articles chosen in a time frame of six years with research in the BVS, PubMed and LiLacs databases. The results indicate that the main cause of the need for oral rehabilitation through dentures is edentulism, its etiology is multifactorial, but social vulnerability and difficulty in accessing health services stand out as predisposing factors. Complete dentures are an effective oral rehabilitation method in completely edentulous individuals and have a positive impact on the quality of life of patients, improving functional, aesthetic and social aspects. However, the masticatory efficiency of patients with complete dentures is lower when compared to patients with natural teeth. The study concludes that removable total dentures play an important role in oral rehabilitation and are directly related to improving the quality of life of completely edentulous individuals.
