Post dental sensitivity: Home whitening and whitening in a dental office
Keywords:
Dental whitening., Tooth sensitivity., Home whitening, In-office whiteningSynopsis
Currently, the search for dental whitening procedures is one of the main demands in dental clinics. However, according to studies in this area, some side effects, such as dentin sensitivity, appear during or after treatment. Gunnar Brännström, a Swedish researcher who pioneered the study of tooth sensitivity, developed the "Hydrodynamic Transmission Theory" to explain this specificity. According to this theory, dentinal tubules, small channels in dentin, contain liquids that can transmit stimuli, such as temperature changes, to nerve endings in the dental pulp, triggering pain sensations. Throughout the research on post-whitening tooth sensitivity in home and in-office whitening techniques, we analyzed which whitening technique is most likely to cause tooth sensitivity.
