Synopsis

SLE is a chronic autoimmune disease that attacks body tissues, affecting organs such as the
heart, kidneys, lungs, and brain. It can cause oral symptoms such as sores, dry mouth
(xerostomia), periodontitis, cavities, and temporomandibular joint problems. Early diagnosis is crucial to prevent the condition from worsening. Treatment varies according to severity and may include medications such as pain relievers, steroids, and immunosuppressants. These SLE medications can increase susceptibility to oral infections and inflammations. Therefore, this work aims to inform and raise awareness among dental surgeons to adjust treatments according to the patient's overall health. Proper prevention and management are essential during dental treatment, requiring detailed examinations and evaluations to ensure patient safety.
